The Cup of Excellence is a prestigious competition held annually with the goal of selecting the finest coffees of their respective countries. The process for awarding the winning coffees is rigorous blind analysis by a jury of national and international professional cuppers (tasters). The winning lots are then sent to an international auction which fetch high prices across the board. It's a win-win: normalizing higher prices for coffee growers and incentivizing these producers to grow the best possible coffees.
Specifically, this lot won 10th place in the 2018 Peruvian Cup of Excellence, only the second time this competition was held in Peru. It was produced by Freddy Bermeo Guevara on his farm El Shimir which is located in Cajamarca. It is comprised of Bourbon and Caturra varieties and grown at 1850 meters above sea level. Señor Guevara's coffee scored 88.2 points in the competition and deservedly so! This delicious coffee in instant form tastes like milk chocolate, brown sugar and tropical fruits.
